Climate Risk - Low Probability - High Risk Events - Climate Adaptation

Matt Varkony is a 4th year PhD student at RSMAS. His research interests include analyzing how vulnerable coastal communities respond to catastrophic climate events. He investigates the mechanisms leading to disparate disaster effects throughout an impacted community. The aim of his research is to better understand the long term implications of climate change on the accessibility and affordability of coastal regions.
Matt is from Denver, Colorado. As is evident through his studies and outside activities he is a fan of all things to do with water. In his free time he likes to stay active by biking to the beach, playing golf (avoiding the water), snowboarding when back in Colorado (on frozen water), and playing basketball (splashing from three).
